Insurance will play for DYI COVID test kits

By Herb Weisbaum, The ConsumerMan / Jan. 17, 2022

Home Covid-19 tests, if you can find them, aren’t cheap. As of this week, private health insurance plans will pay for them, whether you shop online or at the store.

Under new federal regulations from the Biden Administration, insurance companies must pay for up to eight tests per month for those with coverage.

You do not need to see a doctor or get a prescription, and there are no copays or deductibles.

Insurance companies are being encouraged to pay for the test kits at the time of purchase, but with some insurers, you may have to submit a reimbursement form.

This is not retroactive. At-home tests purchased before January 15 do not qualify for reimbursement.
